To try it out, visit the Apple App Store at the URL below. MIDI recording is a way of inputting notes into Dorico Pro by playing them in real time on a MIDI device. Please go to the Generic Lower-Latency ASIO Driver settings in Dorico via Edit > Device Setup > Device Control panel and turn off the checkbox. The app requires an iPad Pro, Air (3rd-gen or newer), or a vanilla iPad 7 or higher, and 570MB of storage space. Though the app itself is free, Steinberg are hoping to tempt advanced users to a $3.99/month (or $39.99/year) subscription plan, which opens up features such as detailed graphical editing of scores and musical symbols, and the ability to score for larger ensembles. Compositions made on the desktop version are fully compatible with iPad projects, and vice versa, so you can start a composition on the move and then finish it off at your desktop workstation. Plus, it's compatible with Apple's Audio Unit format, so you can use third-party instruments and effects in your compositions. The audio engine remains unchanged from the desktop edition of Dorico, and this new iPad version even includes a library of sounds and effects to get you composing straight away. Dorico for iPad apparently takes this one step further, with a new Key Editor view that's designed specifically to take advantage of the iPad's multi-touch interface. One of the features that makes Dorico unique among score editors is that it also features a DAW-style piano-roll MIDI editor, complete with CC lanes.

If you have a soundcard that has native ASIO drivers then the audio engine can access the device hardware directly, which will give you the best results.

Dorico for iPad apparently retains the desktop version's streamlined interface, even keeping the same keyboard shortcuts (for which Steinberg recommend using it with a Bluetooth keyboard), and adding an on-screen MIDI piano keyboard to boot. When I press the VST keyboard with the mouse, I hear a sound. Double-click the downloaded ISO disk image. If I have deactivated Midi Thru, Dorico shows me that it is receiving midi signals, but I still don't hear any sound from my VST. To make them downloadable, the files have been condensed in an ISO disk image. I also use a Roland Quad Capture UA 55 as an audio interface, which is also connected to the computer via USB. I have a Yamaha Clavinova CLP 585 that is connected to the computer via USB. Since I have an annoying latency in Dorico, I wonder if it is related to the fact that I have to activate Midi Thru. To make things worst, the audio lag is not the same throughout the video clip. I have a question with regard to Midi Setup in Dorico and Cubase. In both Cubase and Dorico I have to activate Midi Thru, if I don't do that, I won't get any sound from my VSTs.
